Improving shipyard productivity: BlastOne’s purpose-built blasting and painting hall for Norship in Cairns
by BlastOne International on 28/07/2026 12:34 AM
Norship, a leading marine service provider in Cairns, North Queensland, required a more efficient, purpose-built facility to support larger blasting and painting projects across the commercial, government, and defence sectors.
Prior to the new facility, larger blasting projects were completed inside temporary encapsulation. While functional, this approach created limitations around dust containment, airflow, workflow, and overall productivity for large-scale maritime work.
To support Norship’s long-term operational needs, BlastOne delivered a purpose-built blasting and painting hall designed around productivity, containment, and operational efficiency. The facility gives Norship the scale and control required to manage larger vessels and components, while improving site cleanliness, workflow, and blasting performance.
The new hall measures 63.75m long, 18m wide, and approximately 30m high at its highest point, providing the capacity required for larger-scale blasting and painting operations.
The facility includes three 50K dust collectors with air recirculation to conserve dehumidified air and increase airflow, helping maintain a cleaner and more consistent blasting environment. It also features a mega blast pot with a posi-popup valve system, enabling automatic blast pot filling from the overhead storage hopper. This reduces downtime during refills and helps improve blasting efficiency.
Designed as a blast-to-waste setup for garnet abrasive use, the facility provides Norship with a practical, production-focused solution suited to the demands of maritime blasting and painting.
