The game has changed - CASG trials future contracting model
by ANZDD on 03-Dec-2015
The Department of Defence and Jacobs Australia have signed a contract to deliver capability to the Australian Defence Force through a new Managing Contractor model.
The Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Groups’ Land Systems Division has been selected to pilot the new delivery model which will see Jacobs Australia undertake the traditional project office activities for Project LAND 155 (Enhanced Gap Crossing Capability), from second pass approval through to project closure.
Jacobs Australia was selected after successfully acting as LAND 155’s Industry Partner between First and Second Pass approval. During this time, Jacobs was able to demonstrate innovation and responsively allocate project management, integrated logistic support and engineering expertise to support the CASG Project Office and Capability Manager.
This pilot will explore the extent to which a contractor can be engaged to deliver a relatively low risk capability project and allow skilled Defence staff to be reallocated to higher priorities.
Speaking at the contract signing, Director General Land Manoeuvre Systems, Brigadier Simon Stuart, said, “The lessons learnt from this managing contractor pilot will be highly valuable for Defence to improve our smart buyer credentials and meet the intent of the First Principles Review”.
