Cubic awarded $20 Million contract from the RAAF for new Air Combat training system

Cubic to Deliver Next-Generation Training Technology to the Royal Australian Air Force SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Nov. 5, 2014 – Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB) announced today that it was awarded a new contract valued at more than $20 million from the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) to provide the fifth generation Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation (ACMI) P5 Tactical Combat Training System (P5 TCTS). The contract provides the Royal Australia Air force with a major increase in P5 TCTS allowing use across all Air Combat Group aircraft platforms for pilot training.

The P5 TCTS combat trainer is designed to provide real-time and post-mission training for air-to-air, air-to-ground, and surface-to-air combat missions by recording mission data and relaying time, space and positioning information between participating aircraft during training sorties. Key components of the system include GPS-enabled aircraft-mounted airborne instrumentation “pods” and ground stations, which will help aircrew to conduct, monitor and control air combat training and post-flight debriefing, as well as the flexibility to carry out anywhere, anytime training capability.

“With this contract, Cubic’s P5 TCTS will equip all Air Combat Group aircraft with the latest Air Combat Training System,” said Dave Schmitz, president of Cubic Defense Applications. “With our technology, we enable the Royal Australian Air Force to further enhance debriefs at large training exercises such as Pitch Black and Talisman Sabre that are vital to ensure combat readiness and mission success.''

The P5 TCTS is currently in use on the RAAF’s F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft, and the addition of the new system will allow for P5 TCTS on three Royal Australian Air Force aircraft that currently do not use the system, including: MK-127 Hawk, F/A-18A/B Classic Hornet and the F/A-18G Growler.

Cubic is the prime contractor responsible for performance in all areas of systems engineering, and for development/integration/installation of the ground instrumentation subsystem. DRS Training & Control Systems, LLC, a subsidiary of DRS Technologies, Inc. is the principal subcontractor responsible for performance of the P5CTS airborne instrumentation subsystem to include design, development, aircraft integration and production.
