Australia's new Defence Minister announced

Senator Marise Payne has been announced as Australia's new Minister for Defence. Newly-minted Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced his reshuffled Cabinet appointments in Canberra yesterday. Senator Payne replaces Kevin Andrews who had only served in the role since December 2014.

Senator Payne has a strong background in strategic and foreign policy and was a member of the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee.
