Description

The National Measurement Institute (NMI) is Australia’s peak measurement body, a division of the Australian Government’s Department of Industry, Science and Resources. The NMI plays an important role in the Australian economy by maintaining and regulating Australia’s measurement system, developing and maintaining national measurement standards, and delivering world-class measurement products and client services. We offer a broad range of capabilities in analytical, biological, chemical, legal and physical measurement disciplines.

With unique facilities and world-class measurement capability to help our clients meet their current and future measurement needs, NMI conducts in-depth research programs and provides the legal and technical framework for disseminating measurement standards for the Australian economy.

Working with industry and government, we provide measurement expertise, calibration services, chemical and biological analyses and pattern approval testing. We develop practical, fit-for-purpose solutions that improve business performance, safety, efficiency and regulatory compliance. Our work supports and enhances the productivity and growth of Australian industries, and we aim to ensure a fair, safe, healthy and competitive Australia.
