The National Measurement Institute (NMI) is Australia’s national authority on measurement and part of the Australian Government’s Department of Industry, Science and Resources. NMI provides high-accuracy measurement, calibration and testing services that help the Defence industry support readiness, sustainment and sovereign capability.

NMI gives Defence and industry traceability to national and international standards. This helps organisations meet strict technical requirements, manage risk and perform with confidence. Our services include high-accuracy calibration, chemical and biological analysis, fuel quality monitoring, environmental testing and specialist measurement advice across platforms, sensors, communications, logistics, infrastructure and manufacturing.

NMI works with Defence primes, contractors and small and medium enterprises from innovation through to commercialisation, advanced manufacturing and sustainment. We provide trusted measurement services, specialist expertise and tailored training courses that help industry build capability and meet Defence requirements.
